Is “gold filled” real gold?

It's an actual layer of gold-pressure bonded to another metal. Gold filled is not to be confused with gold plating as filled literally has 100% more gold than gold plating. Gold filled is much more valuable and tarnish resistant. It does not flake off, rub off or turn colors. As a matter of fact, anyone who can wear gold can wear gold filled without worries of any allergic reaction to the jewelry. Gold filled jewelry is an economical alternative to solid gold. Gold filled jewelry will not wear off over time, and if taken care of properly it can last a lifetime.  Gold fill is indistinguishable from solid gold but costs significantly less because of its base metal core.  It differs from gold plate in that gold plate consists of a thin, microscopic layer of gold that will wear off over time.  The gold on gold filled is around 15 times thicker than gold plated jewelry.

Can you shower with gold filled jewelry?

You can wear it to bed, in the shower, and while you exercise. It's safe to swim in gold filled (although I generally suggest avoiding salt water, pools and hot tubs for any type of jewelry.)

We recommend removing the bracelets for swimming, showering and extensive exercising for longevity purposes.

Does Gold Filled Tarnish?

Although a gold filled piece of jewelry is not solid gold, it has the same desirable properties and look of solid gold. It won't tarnish and will not rub off or turn colors. Wearers who are sensitive to certain metals should be able to wear gold filled without worries of allergic reaction.

How do I clean gold filled or sterling silver jewelry?

Simply use a little soap (like shampoo or dish soap), water, and a soft toothbrush. Pat dry with a clean cloth and let air dry. Make sure your jewelry is completely dry before storing. TO REMOVE TARNISH: Use Windex and a soft cloth or the baking soda method used for sterling silver
